Charterhouse Christmas Fair

Charterhouse Christmas Fair 2018

The Charterhouse opens its doors for its very first Christmas Fair

On Tuesday November 13th, the Charterhouse, which encompasses seven centuries of history in seven acres between Barbican and Farringdon, is welcoming everyone to its first Christmas Fair.  Open from 11.00am to 7.00pm the Fair will offer a treasure trove of wonderful gift ideas from cashmere hats and chocolate, to jewellery and gin, in the glorious atmospheric surrounds of this former monastery and Tudor mansion. Join us and get into the Christmas spirit with our own Santa, seasonal treats, and over 30 stalls of distinctive presents for friends and family.  £3.00 entry – under 12s and over 60s free.

Today the Charterhouse is not only a site of enormous historic interest, it is still an almshouse where elderly people live in a thriving community, continuing a legacy that was left by Thomas Sutton in 1611.  Last year, the Charterhouse threw its doors open to the public launching a new museum and learning centre, and revealing the extraordinary estate within which dates back to 1348.  Our first Christmas Fair is just one of a programme of events, tours and workshops which are giving people, both local and visiting, the opportunity to experience and enjoy the atmosphere of this living piece of history, and helping us raise the money needed to preserve it for the current and future generations.
