Bowling Bird latest restaurant to join discount scheme

The latest restaurant to join the Barbican Association Discount Scheme is the relatively new Bowling Bird on Cloth Fair, located in John Betjeman’s old house – No. 44 – and opposite the St. Bartholomew the Great churchyard.

Bowling Bird describes itself as a contemporary neighbourhood restaurant offering fresh, seasonal food and a select choice of fine wines and spirits.   It claims its relaxed service and enlightened hospitality, set amongst an eclectic mix of furnishings in one of London’s most historic areas, makes it a vital addition to the local community.  It generates almost universally positive reviews from other websites and although we haven’t tried it out yet we hope to do so before long.

It is only open lunchtimes and evenings from Tuesday through Friday at the moment and is offering Barbican Association members 25% off all food on its menus.  These are viewable on the website www.bowlingbird.com.

It endeavours to use organic produce as much as possible in its kitchen, from fruit and veg to nuts and seeds. All eggs are free-range organic, as is all chicken. Fish are line caught and sustainable. Lamb is organic. Ingredients used in the preparation of the dishes are of the highest quality, sourced and chosen for their particular flavour profile.  Suppliers include Seggiano, Valrhona, Pujado Solano, Abernethy, Embutidos Alejandro and Sal de Ibiza.

On the drinks front it currently has around 250 selections of wines, covering all the main wine producing regions and beyond. Fine and rare bottles from California are a speciality. It also makes room for choice bottles from Austria, Switzerland, Slovakia and the Czech Republic.  Its range of over 25 bottled beers come from more than a dozen countries and includes some rare and cult offerings.

Bowling Bird is only a short walk from the Barbican and is at 44 Cloth Fair, London EC1A 7JQ. Tel: 020 7324 7742, Email: info@bowlingbird.com
