Exceptional examination success was celebrated at the City of London Academy Islington today following another year of excellent GCSE examinations results.

80% of students achieved 5 A*-C passes, maintaining the Academy’s record high achieved last year, which was an improvement of 13% on 2012.  69% of students achieved 5 A*-C passes including English and Mathematics.  This represents a significant improvement of 9% from last year and a cumulative increase of 36% in 2 years; an outstanding result reflecting the ongoing school improvement since the change in leadership in 2012.

Outstandingly high levels of progress have been made in a majority of subjects, particularly for English, Modern Languages and the Sciences.  In March 2014, a highly successful OFSTED inspection graded the Academy as “Good” and “Outstanding” for leadership and management.

Principal Clare Verga said today, “These results are a true testament to the ongoing improvement and the outstanding work at the Academy.  These results follow a successful set of A level results last week, and many students will be enrolling in the sixth form to continue their education.”

The Academy is sponsored by the City of London Corporation.  Speaking on behalf of the Corporation, Deputy Catherine McGuinness said, ““We are very proud of how hard the students at our schools have worked, and we are delighted that this hard work has translated into tangible results which will enable them to pursue the A levels and further qualifications of their choice.  We wish the students well, and look forward to their continued success in the sixth form.”
